Second to the original Quaker Christmas sampler created by Gail Reinhardt of ByGone Stitches, this new piece Quaker Christmas II, focuses on the "Songs of the Season". Done on 28ct Light Examplar the Stitch count is 240w X 350h (17-1/8"w X 25"h) it uses Gentle Art sampler threads in Currant (115yds) and Blue Spruce (25 yds). Gail had fun creatively "hiding" symbols of songs as well as some of the song titles, scattered throughout the sampler. See if you can find: We Three Kings, The Little Drummer Boy, I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day, I Saw Three Ships, Sleigh Ride, What Child Is This, A Partridge In A Pear Tree, and Frosty The Snowman. |

Mary Hannah Gipson Sampler
Note: Image above is courtesy of Sampler & Antique Needlework Quarterly; the design is available in the Winter 2010 issue of SANQ.
Mary Hannah Gipson was born in 1827 to Joseph and Mary (Richardson) Gipson in 1827 in the quaint Lincolnshire village of Mareham le Fen. Her father was an agricultural worker for the Revesby Estate. We don't know for certain where Mary Hannah stitched her sampler, but since she was from a working class family, she probably stitched it either at home under the direction of her mother or other female relative, or perhaps she attended a church school or charity school in the village to learn her needlework.
Mary Hannah was 9 years old when she stitched her little Adam and Eve sampler. It was stitched almost entirely with cotton floss on a coarse uneven-weave fabric with a count of approximately 12 stitches horizontally and 10 stitches vertically. The original sampler measures about 7.5 inches wide by 15 inches high.
On the original sampler, the last digit is missing from the year. Mary Hannah almost certainly stitched the entire year when she finished her sampler in 1836. But since she did not marry until she was 36 years old, she most likely removed the "6" when she was a young woman, so that her age would not be easily determined from the sampler hanging on her parents' wall This wasn't an uncommon practice, particularly if a lady married at a late age, or remained unmarried.
The reproduction of Mary Hannah's sampler is stitched on 24/29 count uneven weave Muffin Glenshee linen, using 5 colors of Gentle Arts floss and 3 colors of DMC floss. The reproduction is slightly smaller than the original at about 6.75 inches wide by 13 inches high.

Price Increase Notice - March 1, 2011
After several weeks of discussion and deliberation and several attempts to renegotiate with our suppliers and vendors, it is with great reluctance that we must institute a price increase.
Due to the increase in raw materials and other costs, we must raise the cost of our merchandise to you. We have absorbed these additional costs for many years and have avoided raising our prices for as long as possible, but we are no longer in a position to do so.
Please accept this letter as notification of a rate adjustment, effective March 1, 2011.
To try to cushion this needed price increase we will continue to offer our January 10% off sale between January 17th and January 22nd, 2011. We are also offering a 15% discount on all orders taken on-site at the show in Nashville. We will maintain the current price structure past the Nashville Needlework Market until March 1st, 2011.
Should you have any questions, please contact our office at 614-855-8346. We will be happy to help you. Thank you for understanding that this price increase means that we can continue to maintain the superior quality standard of our products and services for the coming year and into the future.
Sincerely,

Little Foxes Country Retreat Sampler
Model stitched on 32-ct. Cornsilk, Lakeside Linens
Thread Used: The Gentle Art Sampler Threads and DMC 6-strand Embroidery Floss
This is a new design by Norma Flake of Keepsakes Stitches.
What a joy to create this beautiful sampler and to share the story as to the inspiration for this piece. We take
a number of camping trips during the summer and we like to visit old historical villages, mining towns and
watch for wildlife. The buggy in this sampler was found in Roseberry, Idaho, along with lots of antiques and
historical buildings. I will be doing more samplers from my stash of Roseberry photos in the near future.
The two foxes visited us on a recent camping trip where we were off by ourselves. One evening we discovered
one of the foxes curled up on the patio next to our trailer like a little sleeping dog and the second fox watching
her little one nearby. My husband grabbed his camera and the two foxes began to follow him. He took photo
after photo and we enjoyed them playing in the grass and dandelions for several hours. Each evening we were
there, the foxes would come to visit.
This sampler uses 37 different specialty stitches and 45 different colors of The Gentle Art Sampler Threads.
The publication includes all graphs and stitch diagrams.
Retail customers can purchase this design from their your local needlework shop. Retail shops can purchase this design from Norden Crafts or Hoffman distributing.

Help us meet the Challenge!
Share the joy of needlework and encourage a child to read. Join the Needle and Thread: Stitching for Literacy 2010 Bookmark Challenge.
During the Challenge, from March 18 - May 6, independent needlework shops, guilds, and online stitching communities collect hand-stitched bookmarks, and then donate them to schools and libraries during Children's Book Week where they are awarded to kids for reading accomplishments.
Patterns That Support Literacy
Funk & Weber Designs, My Mark Designs, Rosewood Manor, Cross Eyes Kat, and The Cat's Whiskers Design Studio have released patterns for the Needle and Thread: Stitching for Literacy program. Each company donates to literacy programs a minimum of 10% of profits from sales of these designated patterns.
The Gentle Art Supports Stitching for Literacy Outreach Programs
We accept the Challenge, too! If your shop teaches
an outreach class free of charge at your local school or library, we will be
delighted to donate the thread for your class.
Whether you stitch bookmarks for the Challenge or organize a collection site, every bookmark counts. We value your efforts to promote literacy and embroidery within your community and to the next generation.
Visit http://StitchingForLiteracy.com for further details.
The Needle and Thread: Stitching for Literacy program is organized and run by Funk & Weber Designs.

Not Forgotten Sampler
Designed by Linda Lautenschlager, Chessie & Me
Not Forgotten Sampler is a gentle piece that is stitched entirely in Gentle Art's Simply Wool thread! Very Primitive in flavor, the wool threads add a softness and age to the colors that silk and cotton do not. Finishing approx 11 x 16, regular cross stitches, 32ct linen, VERY authentic in colonial color and feel!
Linda bought the original sampler from a fellow designer. It was in very sad shape, but somehow it spoke to her. Linda fell in love with the large foral and bird motifs and immediately knew she needed to rescue it.
When she started to reproduce the piece, she realized that it had been stitched entirely with wool thread and felt she needed to do the same.
According to Linda, "the color pallette of the Gentle Art Simply Wool Collection has been a perfect match and as an added bonus, a "dream" to stitch with as well.
I've had such fun recreating this little treasure and hope many of you will try stitching with the wool thread and feel the same."
